During the 2023 World Championship, Polykemi sponsored the U.S. men's national handball team in connection with the opening of our new factory in the United States. For the 2025 World Championship, we have renewed our sponsorship to extend our support for the team alongside several other partners, including American telecom company Verizon.
The U.S. men’s handball team is participating in the 2025 World Championship, which will take place from January 14 to February 2 in Denmark, Norway, and Croatia. This marks the U.S.'s seventh participation in a handball World Championship.
Polykemi is participating as one of the main sponsors, continuing our sponsorship from 2023 as part of our ongoing commitment to support American handball and contribution to our mutual successes in the U.S.

Handball and Polykemi Go Hand in Hand
Since our establishment in 1968, Polykemi AB has been an active and proud sponsor of the Ystads IF handball club. Our founder, Hugo Jönsson, had a deep passion for sports, particularly handball and Ystads IF. Hugo was the one who turned YIF into a major club in Swedish handball, leading the club to its first Swedish championship in 1976 and laying the foundation for many other successes. Hugo Jönsson is considered one of the greatest sports leaders in Swedish handball history.
– Polykemi is one of Ystads IF’s main sponsors, and my grandfather was the honorary chairman. My dad (Executive Vice President Lars Hugosson) also played professionally, and my mom is the speaker at the games. So, the entire Polykemi family is a handball family. It’s all about plastics and handball, says Herman Hugosson, Chief Operating Officer at Polykemi and part of the owning family.
Growing Sport in the U.S.
Handball is an intense, explosive, and fast-moving ball sport that originated in Europe, is growing in Asia, and has many successful teams in Africa and South America. The sport is also gaining strength in the United States, which has been represented in every Olympic Games in the USA. In addition to the 2025 World Championship, the U.S. Team will participate in the 2027 World Championship in Germany as well as the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
